2022-2023 Annual Attendance Notification

  • Kennedale ISD believes that regular school attendance is crucial to each student's academic success, and it is the District's goal to provide every student with the best educational experience possible. In order to do this, students must be in attendance to receive valuable instruction each school day. The Texas Education Code requires all school districts to notify families annually about unexcused absences and compulsory attendance. This law requires children ages 6–19 to attend school every day they are in session. Once enrolled in prekindergarten or kindergarten, even if under the age of six, the student is required to attend and is subject to all compulsory attendance laws.

    In addition to the compulsory attendance requirement, the 90 Percent Rule states that students must be in attendance for 90 percent of the days that instruction is offered. If a student's attendance does not meet or exceed the 90 percent threshold, they may be denied credit or promotion. District policy requires all absences to be considered in determining whether a student has attended the required percentage of days. This includes both excused and unexcused absences.

    When it is necessary for your child to be absent, a signed parent's note or doctor’s note must be provided to the campus immediately upon return in order for the absence to be considered excused. Illness-related absences for more than five consecutive days require a note from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the extended absence or the student’s absence will be considered unexcused.

    For the 2022-2023 school year, COVID-19 EXCUSED absences will not negatively affect a student’s compulsory attendance.

    Should your child accumulate three unexcused absences for a day or a part of a day in a four-week period or five total unexcused absences for a day or part of a day, they will be subject to Truancy Prevention Measures in an effort to deter further absences. Should your child’s pattern of absences continue and accumulate ten unexcused absences for days or parts of days in a six-month period, a truancy complaint may be filed against the parent or student in county court. This filing typically results in a fine and court costs.

    Para el año escolar 2022-2023, las ausencias JUSTIFICADAS por COVID-19 no afectarán negativamente la Asistencia Obligatoria de un estudiante.

    Si su hijo acumula tres ausencias injustificadas durante un día o una parte de un día en un período de cuatro semanas o cinco ausencias injustificadas totales durante un día o parte de un día, estará sujeto a medidas de prevención del absentismo escolar en un esfuerzo por disuadir nuevas ausencias. Si el patrón de ausencias de su hijo continúa y acumula diez ausencias injustificadas durante días o partes de días en un período de seis meses, se puede presentar una queja de ausentismo escolar al padre o estudiante en el tribunal del condado. Esta presentación generalmente resulta en una multa y costos judiciales.
